West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced a few days ago that if the third wave of the COVID pandemic does not do much damage to the state, the administration will issue the final dates regarding the reopening of schools and resumption of offline classes.
Apart from the reopening of schools in the state, the West Bengal government is also planning to resume offline classes in colleges, universities, coaching centres, and other educational institutions. The government has further announced that the decision regarding the reopening of schools will be taken keeping the health of the students in mind.

Several states and union territories have decided to resume offline classes for senior students in the last month as the Covid-19 graph seems to go downwards.
Puducherry announced on Monday that it will re-open schools and colleges from 1 September. Classes 9 and 10 would be held on Mondays and classes 11 and 12 on Tuesdays.

The state health secretary has sent a letter to his counterpart in the state higher education department, district magistrates and chief medical officers of health in the districts to expedite the vaccination of eligible students.

The state reported 561 new Covid-19 cases and eight deaths on Sunday, as per an official bulletin. As many as 18,364 cumulative deaths and 15,42,986 cases have so far been recorded in West Bengal due to the virus.
The recovery rate in the state rose to 98.20% with 686 more people getting cured of the disease in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate stands at 1.53%.
There are 9,461 active cases in West Bengal at present. A total of 15,15,161 patients have recovered so far.

“With a view of possible restarting of offline instructions in colleges and universities, it has been decided to vaccinate all students of such higher education institutions at the earliest possible. The vaccination drive will be organised by the health department in coordination with the higher education department,” the letter stated.
While the Durga Puja starts this year from October 11, the immersion process would continue till October 17. The puja vacation in West Bengal continues till Bhai Dooj or Bhai Phonta every year. This year, however, schools, colleges and universities, which are now suspended due to Covid-19, are likely to reopen after the puja vacation

The DMs and CMOHs have been directed to hold coordination meetings with college and university authorities for planning early Covid-19 vaccination of the students. The vaccination drive may be conducted at the existing vaccination centres or college and university campuses.

Dean of students, coordinators, medical officers and other heads have been asked to undertake necessary inspections and set up health centres at the campus so that classes may be resumed as soon as the government gives the green light.
